Restless, weary and dazed I plodded out of bed. I’m not sure what the hour was because at that moment, time did not exist. Looking out the window, I saw a landscape painted in moonlight, with no sign of movement. No automobiles, not even a single person or animal. As I continued to observe, I noticed there was a slight motion within the stillness: hazy, back-lit clouds, drifting slowly through the atmosphere…

Intended to be released on “The Life I Once Had Known”, this song (ironically) wasn’t ready in time. Featuring the great Nate Tulenson on violin, he takes us on what I imagine to be a Venetian gondola floating upon three-part harmony. Some suit wearing executive’s arm candy thought this song wasn’t “danceable”, so it was nixed from the final album. Here’s a B-side that was originally intended for The Life I Once Had Known. Download the song Careless

Somehow this duo of cheeky mongers managed to draw a crowd long enough to perform some of their self proclaimed ‘chart toppers”. Horses for courses I suppose.

Formula for a hit song: A dash of xylophone, stir in prehistoric creatures, add a few combustion engines, marinate the entire mixture in oil and blood. Here’s one of the early singles that took Brett’s career into the upper crust of nerd-rock stardom. Download Dinosaur Juice!

Scientists have concluded that stages N3 and N4 are the deepest forms of sleep, characterized by no eye movement or muscle activity. It was during such an N4 sleep occasion when my phone rang. It was 4:20am. It was Jason, a co-worker and friend. As my bodily functions slowly restored, my mind began racing of the terrible ramifications of this early call. A car accident? An emergency room visit? “Huhhello…” I grunted. “Brett.. Dood!” Jason shouted. “I was sitting here and it just hit me! You totally need to cover Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit, it would be frickin’ hilarious!” He continued with his unbridled AM exuberance, “You totally need to have sound effects at the beginning and… oh man, it would just be funny to hear you, of all people, to do a trippy song like that, I mean, if you can sing it.” I pressed “end call” and hoped to be in stage N3 soon.

Recorded with overdubs on a Sunday afternoon, I put down a drumtrack, bass, some guitars, piano, a lot of reverb and a robot voice changer.
